Shannon Daley, Board President

Shannon is the Account Coordinator and Marketing Director for a Northwest distributor of construction and erosion control products. She earned her Bachelors degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon and went on to earn her Masters in Business Administration from Marylhurst University.  Shannon volunteers her time with ECO because, as a Portland native, she supports the organizations goal of investing in the education of Portland’s youth and building environmental awareness in future generations.

John Paul, Board Treasurer

John is a Portfolio Manager in the National Corporate group at U.S. Bank. He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from North Carolina State University and completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oregon. John believes strongly in educating elementary students about sustainability and local ecosystems. He joined ECO to help further its mission in classrooms throughout the Portland metro area.

Michelle Matejka, Board Secretary

Michelle is a Special Education Teacher in the David Douglas School District. She earned her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s in Education at the University of Oregon.  She enjoys camping, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. Michelle volunteers with ECO because she values education and wants to contribute to students learning how to help keep our community and environment healthy.

Sarah Bercume, Co-Founder

Sarah is one of the Co-Founders of ECO as well as the current Co-Director. She earned her Bachelors degree in Environmental Science from the University of Maine and went on to earn her Masters in Ecosystem Management and Restoration from Oregon Health and Science University.  Sarah believes that by allowing students the opportunity to explore and discover their local ecology they will develop a strong sense of place.  This connection and opportunities to develop critical thinking skills will inspire students to impact positive change in their community.

Bethany Thomas, Co-Founder

Bethany is one of the Co-Founders of ECO as well as the current Co-Director.  She received her Bachelors degree in Environmental Science and Geography from the University of Oregon.  She enjoys working with children and young adults and in her spare time coaches and judges high school dance teams.  Bethany, her husband, Matt, and baby Quinn live in Portland where they operate Townshend’s Tea Company.
