| About the Organization ECO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 2005 by Sarah Bercume and Bethany Thomas. Having spent a number of years as environmental educators with various organizations, both as employees and volunteers, Sarah and Bethany identified a common limitation: time. Many organizations are only able to facilitate a limited amount of time with students. Recognizing this common limitation, Sarah and Bethany set out to design a meaningful, long-term program. The ECO Instructional Model, as described on the Home Page, allows students to begin studying ecology at a young age, and continue their studies through elementary school. ECO aims to bring Science Enrichment Programs to increasingly more schools in the Portland region. Please contact us if you are interested in learning how to bring an ECO Program to your school! |
| Bethany received her bachelors degree in environmental science and in geography from the University of Oregon. In her spare time, Bethany coaches a high school dance team and helps out with her husband's businesses Townshend's Alberta St. Teahouse & Townshend's Bend Teahouse. |
